Personal Safety Guide
Keeping yourself safe while showing your house!
1.  Always keep a cell phone at your side.  Program your emergency numbers into speed dial.  These numbers should include 911, a trusted neighbor, and a family member.  If you have an emergency situation and call 911, stay on the line.  Do NOT hang up!

2.  Have a prearranged distress signal (such as "don't forget to buy carrots").  You may be in a situation where you think you might need help: you can use the phone, but the person you are with can overhear the conversation and you do not want to alarm him/her.  This is where a prearranged distress code can help.

3.  Notify neighbors and family when you are showing your house.

4.  Place all valuables including jewelry, medicine, wallets, purses, laptops, etc in a safe, secure place.

5.  Always let the prospective buyer lead the way.  Avoid leading the way and always be aware of an escape route.  Do not go into basements or attics that have no escape.

6.  Safety in numbers- have a friend or family member with you when you have potential buyers in your house.

7.  TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS!!!  Safety experts agree that it is best to assume that your instincts are right and to take the necessary precautions.  Do not be so anxious for a sale that you ignore your own intuition in the heat of the moment.
